This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .
If it remains an issue,
I suspect the issue is still there, as the ecryptfs format changed
between 7.10 and 8.04. However it will only affect users of ecryptfs
from 7.10 or prior that upgrade to 8.04 or later. Regardless, the
maintainer doesn't seem to care, as the data isn't corrupted, just
inaccessable from newer ker

I took the encrypted directory and copied it over to a 7.10 machine
(i386), and was able to mount it correctly. I'm now tar'ing that up for
safekeeping.
So just to confirm: This is a 8.04 specific *regression* from 7.10.
