Installer for package linux-image-2.6.24-19-generic seems to get it
right : it leaves the 'root (hd0, 2)' as they are.

It's # groot=(hd0,2)
The included menu.lst is the one I currently use. I accepted the changes
by the package installer and then I changed all the (hd0,1) to (hd0,2).
The # groot= was still (hd0,2). I also put 2.6.24-16 in second place
because -18 does not boot completely on my machine.
Note that

What does the line starting '# groot=' in your menu.lst say? (In fact,
please just attach your whole menu.lst.)
