I can't reproduce this with a recent dpkg-source with the very same
source package. And dbus-1.1.20/debian/patches/03_fix_inotify.patch is a
real file in that source package. So patch must have also created the
backup file. Maybe it was a bug in the patch command too... marking as
incomplete as I c

Do you have any aliases for the "patch" command defined? Is path
overriden to use something other than /usr/bin/patch? Is that file
the one from the "patch" package?
