Hi I'd like to reopen this bug as I've found a fix.
I spotted this on http://mattions.wordpress.com/2008/10/05/rhythmbox-
and-firefox-on-hardy/. All you need to do is
sudo apt-get install libflashsupport
...and then restart firefox and rhythmbox. I've confirmed that this
works.

This is most likely a result of Flash causing PulseAudio to crash or
otherwise stop responding (perhaps locking the audio device), which in
turn locks up the GStreamer Pulse plugin, which in turn locks up
Rhythmbox.

the trace is missing a lot of symbols, may you please install:
rhythmbox-dbgsym, libglib2.0-0-dbgsym, libgtk2.0-0-dbgsym and get a new
one? also you may want to install some of the gstreamer ones, thanks.

Okay here's the output of gdb and my .xsession-errors.
In the gdb output, I ran attach immediately after step 3. I.e. I'd
clicked the unpause button in rhythmbox, and it was hanging.
