Public bug reported:
enthought tvtk (and thus also mayavi2) fails to generate figures properly under
compiz.
This is resolved by running an alternative Window manager (tested with fluxbox
and metacity)

Indeed. I can confirm this. AFAIK this is a compiz bug, and not a
tvtk/mayavi2 bug. The root of the problem lies in the fact that tvtk and
mayavi reparent a GL rendering window.
