Sorry for the long delay.
You can close this bug. I installed the 32 bits version of Ubuntu on
that machine and all the problems disappeared.
Therefore I can't test anymore the config I reported in the bug, sorry.

César

Thanks. They are specified as standard options in your menu.lst, so will
be added every time you install a new kernel. If you want to remove the
options, then you should edit the following line and run 'update-grub':
# kopt=root=UUID=df174c4c-a0a7-4dd1-aff5-e2c31defcc9f ro irqpoll
pci=routeirq

You are right, I'll report the opps as soon as I get some time.
I attach /boot/grub/menu.lst as previously requested.

It would be good to report the Oops to a separate report. It's better to
have those types of bugs fixed, because using things like irqpoll to
work around other problems should only be regarded as an interim
measure.
Thanks

Hello,
I'll send the file when I arrive home.
Anyway, I tried to remove this option and I got a kernel oops, which
suggested to add this options again...
I'm getting a poor system performance overall, that's for sure, so
dmesg warning becomes true...
Thanks for the interest,
César

dispite - Could you attach your /boot/grub/menu.lst so I can see if they
are specified in the standard options for your GRUB configuration.
Thanks

I think I added these options some Ubuntu versions ago, because dmesg
was showing an error which suggested adding those options.
However, I'd say that I later removed them and they were added again
by Ubuntu. How can I check if they are standard options or they were
added by me?

options: ro irqpoll pci=routeirq are used. Your dmesg says "This may
significantly impact system performance"
Have you added those options yourself?

OK, I've done some extra tests. If I re-enable the bootsplash, booting
is fast.
I will summarize my new tests:
I) Bootsplash: enabled
Boot time: 1 minute 56 seconds (well, not so fast, the splash disappeared
during the boot process, so I could finally see some of the boot messages).
Boot log: s
Could you please do the following in a terminal after a slow boot:
dmesg > dmesg.log
..and then attach 'dmesg.log' to this bug report as an uncompressed
file.
Thanks

Hi, I've disabled the splash screen in the grub boot parameters. I

I'll restore it to see if this may cause the problem, and I'll report

I've just thought - do you see the Ubuntu splash screen and loading bar
correctly when the machine is booting? You shouldn't see those boot
messages if the splash screen is working correctly

Hello Chris,
I've installed bootchart, and now the boot process takes normal time (about 1,5
minutes).
However, if I remove bootchart, booting process takes 8 minutes again.
So bootchart is not helpful to track the problem (but at least I got a
workaround).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Could you please install the package 'bootchart' from the
repositories. Bootchart is a boot sequence auditing tool, and will
generate a chart showing which processes were running during the boot,
how long they took
