Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

I now use Intrepid, and Cyrillic works well, although I disabled boot-up
splash screen. There are reports from other users in Russian forums that
they experience problems with Cyrillic similar to described above when
the splash screen is enabled.

Cyrillic does not work in console by default
I am going to mark this as Confirmed, as this is obviously still a
problem if usplash is enabled.

Cyrillic does not work in virtual terminals (outside xorg) in Hardy by
default. Neither cyrillic characters can be displayed properly, nor it
can be entered from the keyboard. This is when all opions for Russian
locale were choosen during setup.
When triing to
All work perfectly in Gutsy and Hardy with next configuration:
console-setup console-setup/codesetcode string CyrKoi
console-setup console-setup/codeset select # Cyrillic - KOI8-R and KOI8-U
console-setup console-setup/fontface select TerminusBoldVGA
console-setup
There is no option for KOI8 or Terminus in the console-setup.
