Network-manager is fine for those of you who have DSL or CABLE. However,
there are quite a number of us who do not have and, will not have for a
long, long time. As we still need to configure modems to automatically
connect to our ISP when accessing the I-net, we need the capability only

right, network-manager could probably use a menu entry, the correct way
to get that is to open a network-manager bug requesting that and not
reopening this bug, same comment about the hostname change, if network-
manager 0.7 doesn't allow to do that and you think it's useful open a
bug there

It's actually quite different than installing a new kernel. When a new
kernel is installed you can run the existing one just fine until you
reboot. When you change the hostname all kinds of things start
"breaking".

I don't think this bug is invalid. I just tried to change the host name
of this virtual machine. So the first thing I did was look for Network
in the System > Administration. That lead me to almost create a new bug
report because it is a regression that you cannot "administer" the
network settings
Marking as invalid due to the user workflow transferring to NM 0.7 for

changing the hostname is not a good idea, it breaks the current session
since applications are not able to connect correctly to it after the
change and that's really confusing for users

Yes I did. I just said that NM applet doesn't allow to change hostname
and domain as the gnome tool allows. I used these 2 features and that
was I added my comment.

Yeah, I've been looking into this more over the last couple days. I think
fixing bugs in Network Manager is more productive. Reasons being:
1) it works in most cases. The case I was having problems with was static IPs
but I believe that is getting fixed in the next upload.
2) feature parity betwe
Jordan - what is insufficient about the network manager applet? Im able
to do everything I need to do with it. It has a bug separately reported
in correctly another bug where it doesnt remember manual wired ethernet
custom settings but that will be fixed.

Please, for the sake of those of us who still use the gnome-system-tools
Network GUI install gnome-network-admin by default. NM is still
insufficient for a number of people and not being able to set up an
ethernet connection as I have been for the last 6 years is a severe
regression.

Thank you Tim. Changing to Wishlist - this needs to be installed by
default, not separately by the user unless there is going to be a
replacement app.

Thank you for taking the time to report this. It does appear that the Network
