This is Oddvar. I dont know if that beep-sound was related to a computer
error. The fact is that my Nvidia video card had to be replaced after
blackout. I have a new ATI video card now and the beep sound has
disappeared.

I ordered a CD from Ubuntu. When I installed that, the beep sound was gone, and
still is!
Earlier I made my own CD's. md5sum ok. Difference might be RW CD,

I presume the tick box to the left is enabled? If you click the play
button do you get a short drum roll? The reason I'm asking about this
option is that if it is enabled but you have no sound specified, you get
a system beep instead. I thought that might have been the cause;
clearly the problem
