Public bug reported:

If one has loaded the kvm kernel modules (kvm.ko and kvm_intel.ko on my
system), it is no longer possible to run VMWare Player, as it will attempt to
use the VT CPU feature, but it will still be locked by kvm, even after the
modules have been rmmodded.
Clearly VMWare should be falling back to less efficient virtualisation, but kvm
should also be clearing up after itself when it is removed.

To quote from the vmware community forums:

"The KVM module leaves CR4.VMXE set even after the module has been
removed. A patch for this is working its way through the Linux
community, but in the meantime, you must make sure that the KVM module
is never loaded."[0]

They reference a patch which has apparently been accepted by kvm
upstream - perhaps we could include this patch? Blacklisting kvm and
rebooting is somewhat unpleasant.

The patch is here: http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg00083.html
and according to http://kerneltrap.org/Linux/2.6.26-rc6_A_Few_Less_Regressions
has been accepted into the linus 2.6.26 kernel.
