Workaround boot the new kernel and reinstall the driver ( I used EnvyNG ) then
reboot again and the driver should work again.
Note your old kernel will not work with the driver ones you have reinstalled it
on your new kernel.

every ABI, and I'm quite sure they are working since I use nVidia on at
least one of my laptops. Perhaps folks are installing the ABI package
and not the meta

I'm having problems with this as well, my nvidia card works fine with
-19, but gdm won't start with the current -20. I've got a very basic
xorg.conf.
I'll post my Xorg.0.log when I've got a minute.

I'm having the same problems as well, -19 works, -20 does not, except in
low graphics mode. I've attached my xorg.conf if that will help.

As everybody else here, the 2.6.24-20.38 kernel puts me in low graphics mode.
I have a nvidia Geforce 6200 SE graphic card. I use the proprietary drivers
(nvidia driver in xorg.conf) installed by the ubuntu wizard. I did not edit
my xorg.conf manually.

Same problem here. Trying to boot with the -20.38 kernel results in low
graphics mode. I am forced to boot with -19 kernel in order to get
normal resolution and full 3D accel.

Just remembered that I uninstalled the drivers so I could get a good
size screen so I can see everything. Going to enable the restricted
drivers for Nvidia and restart the process.

Ok here is the log file after I deleted the conf file... Did not boot
up into LOW RES, however the drivers are not enabled now. going to try
to enable again and reboot.

after deleteing xorg.conf booted back up into the regular size. However
still can not use the extra capabilities of the card. Restricted Drivers
goes back to disabled.
NOTE: When I have Kernal -19 installed I had an Nvidia Splash Screen
when i booted. That is gone in -20. Don't know if that
2.6.24-20 proposed package did not even work for me...
