Hmmm, no... I can't test under Intrepid, but I was able to play without
any hiccups by disabling music and sound effects, so it looks (or
sounds? ;) ) like a sound issue.
I started the program from a terminal, disabled sound and music, and
this is the output I got on the terminal screen:

Could you please test this on Intrepid? From earlier comments it seems
this may be a sound issue, and there have been a number of changes in
this area with Intrepid. Thanks again.

I just tried version 0.5 and it started then just blanked out and didn't
come back. I got this in the terminal WARNING: Could not initialize the
ALUT based sound.
