Okay, upstream took the patch, with the following comment:
"There is only one button for eraser, the eraser button. You can not get the
side switch button event when using the eraser. So, enable it or not would
not cause any difference. I will apply the patch just in case..."

I've forwarded the patch upstream for comment. I'm concerned that
surely that bit of code was put in there for a reason, so worry that
removing it might disable desired functionality for some people.
