This printer needs to be configured using hp-setup to function correctly, the
HPLIP tools do not take care off this.
The automatic printer detection and configuration (plug 'n print) does not
install the firmware that is required for this printer to work.
Simply running:
sudo hp-setup

I've used the information you gave, and receive the same result as
Colin.
The printer was recognized by Ubuntu on install, with the foo2xqx
driver, the HPLIP tools detect the printer and show everything. When I
attempt any kind of print job, nothing happens.

To be honest, I haven't tried. My printing needs were sufficiently
urgent that I took the HP back to the supplier who traded straight
across for a Samsung ML2510 which works beautifully. Much thanks for
your effort in responding.
