As per Ubuntu question:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/116748
I also had a similar confusion regarding what wifi chipset I have based
on the results of dmesg vs. lspci/lshw:
dmesg | grep Atheros
[ 10.131682] ath5k phy0: Atheros AR2425 chip found
lspci -nn | grep Atheros
05:00.0
I am having a similar error. I also have the WPN311 card, Atheros AR5001X+
chipset:
01:04.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Atheros Communications Inc. Atheros
AR5001X+ Wireless Network Adapter [168c:0013] (rev 01)
Subsystem: Netgear Device [1385:5e00]
Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster+ S
I have this too. Also phy0 keeps using 20% of my 1.6Ghz system causing
system glitches with anything remotely graphical (video / 3D games etc)
I have the same output as #11

I can confirm this in Jaunty using the kernel 2.6.29-020629rc7-generic
from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds

I'm re-opening this bug as I can reproduce it on the latest jaunty
kernel 2.6.28-8-generic. dmesg is reporting "[6.161116] ath5k phy0:
Atheros AR2414 chip found (MAC: 0x79, PHY: 0x45)" while lshw reports
"Atheros AR5001X+ Wireless Network Adapter" (AR5212 chipset). lspci
also reports AR5001X+
Setting this to "Fix Released" based on the decision to stick with the
2.6.27 kernel for Intrepid - https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
