It can not play any encrypted DVDs. It plays unencrypted, downloaded from the
internet only.
I do not know what is libdvdcss2 nor how to add the output of dmesg after
trying to play the DVD.
I've started using Linux not long ago and not really familiar with things yet.

Also, are these encrypted DVDs (such as ones from the store) or
unencrypted (homemade)? If they are encrypted, do you have libdvdcss2
installed? It's not available in the repos for legal reasons, but
Medibuntu ( https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu ) has a package
available.

you tried to play a DVD with a different tool? Please add the output of
dmesg after trying to play the DVD.
