Hinting of certain fonts, notably Lucida Console when rendering bold
text, is still broken for me since upgrading to Intrepid. I filed it as
bug 314555.

Yes, you are right. It was more related to this one,

that cairo broke this.
Although reverting to suggested libcairo version (1.6.4) worked for a
while. But off lately, the newer version has become dependency of so

This is not a duplicate. You’re talking about hinting, the other bug is
talking about LCD filters.

Put attached file as .fonts.conf (with first dot) into your $HOME.
Take a look at its contents: it has environment
lcddefault
which makes all the difference.

That didnt work. I thought it gave me better fonts. But it has still
been broken. Marked it as duplicate of another confirmed bug related to
same.
