Unfortunately, without more info we cannot begin troubleshooting this
issue.
Fwiw, the white square at the top left is a cursor in text mode, which
suggests the problem actually isn't xorg-server, but something earlier
on in the boot process.

7.10, so any log files were deleted.
I have 8.04 on my desktop and there it works fine.

file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to
your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.
