Have the same problem. The wireless USB card stopped working with Intrepid
after installing the latest updates.
Same error messages as the original post. Was working fine before.

was my mistakei didn't install in the right way the ubuntu release... the
usb adaptor is working good and the same usb drivers.

i can't find linux-restricted-modules for the kernel i installed...no i didn't
update the kernel via update-manager/synaptic/apitude/$whatever, i downloaded
this package linux-image-2.6.27-1-generic_2.6.27-1.1_i386 and i installed it.
by the way i'm gonna to download the iso file of the alpha3 an

You have to also install linux-restricted-modules for your kernel.

i searched for that file...the only file called rt73.bin is located in
(lib/firmware/linux-2.26.24-19generic) .
if it can helps i installed the linux-image-2.6.27-* kernel by downloading the
deb packet...
