Indeed, there is a problem on Intrepid to install debug packages of
firefox. They should update the debug packages in order to be
installable. See:

Please, try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash.
(install notably packages 'firefox-3.0-dbgsym' and 'gdb'. You will have a
problem of dependency but select the first solution (which does not uninstall
ubuntu-desktop)

I've added the repositories listed in the first link but, as you say, I
have a dependency problem and I'm not sure how to get round it - I don't
understand when you say 'select the first option (which does not
uninstall ubuntu-desktop)'. :-/
I ran sudo apt-get install firefox-3.0-dbgsym gdb and
Crashed during system update. Probably a shared file.
