I would really like to see this fixed as well, its really getting
frustrated with crawling under my desk to reconnect, every time I have
to reboot.
I'm open to helping troubleshoot this problem if someone will let me

I just had the same problem when upgrading from Hardy to Intrepid via
Update Manager.
During installation the keyboard & mouse stopped working. I had to reinsert
the USB dongle to get it back working. Also after rebooting i had to do the
same thing. Something has definitely been broken in Intr
