Hi,
We have a Netware environment with spx/ipx protocol support only, where
printers are attached to Netware servers. I am looking for printing on
these printers through Ubuntu Desktop 9.10.
I tried using LPR/LPR host by specifying server name as host and printer
queue name against printer queue
Wouldn't the simplest resolution here be:
ncpfs package (which provides nprint), provides and installs a CUPS
backend which can be referred to by ncp://...
s-c-p provides the ability to be able to specify the ncp backend in it's
device uri configuration, either as an 'other' device, or as a 'nove
The feature request was not adding the backend to the s-c-p package but
only adding the support to s-c-p, like there is also support for IPP and
LPD. But if there is no real demand for it, this is not urgent.

Fedora ships an ncp backend for CUPS already, and no-one has ever asked
for more support than currently exists: allowing the user to enter an
arbitrary URI such as ncp://... -- I think this is sufficient.
It is not system-config-printer's job to provide CUPS backends, only to
configure print queue
Tim, this is a feature request for system-config-printer, but I do not
know how much demand there really is on it.

No, but it will be no big problem to add this support. If needed we have
to lift the ncp/nprint stuff into main.
