Public bug reported:

I was experiencing lockups where nothing would happen until I pressed
any key on the keyboard. One fairly consistent way of reproducing this
situation was to log out of a gnome session; then I'd have to press a
key several times in order for the X server to restart completely. It
would eventually restart by itself but took several minutes. This
happened 5 times out of the 10 i tried it. Booting with
clocksource=jiffies seems to fix the problem (by default the clocksource
was hpet). There were no lockups when logging out 10 times with
clocksource=jiffies. This seems to affect several kernels; certainly
2.6.27-2 and probably 2.6.27-1 and 2.6.26-5. All the kernels I have
tried have been 64-bit. I am using an "Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU
Q9400 @ 2.66GHz" and an Asus P5Q motherboard (I think it has an intel
p45 chipset).

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
