We got a new controller, with upgraded firmware (1.43 instead of 1.35)
So far so good, no more hang, but we have no real stress on this server yet

Same problem here.
We have an Areca 1220 controller (3TB Raid5) installed.
Sytem is 2xXenon quad core with 16GB ram.
I'm using latest kernel 2.6.24-21-xen (32 Bit).
I've manually compiled the arcmsr driver from Areca homepage (ver.
1.20.0X.15.80603).
System still hangs every 1-2 weeks with the r
our Configuration is
* bi Xeon HT (4 core total) + 4 GB RAM
* system on one 75 GB ATA disk on onboard controller
* 800 GB reiserfs + 3TB ext3 on ARECA 1120 controller
BOTH reiserfs and ext3 had needed fsck at reboot.
