I can confirm this bug.
- install intrepid (ugly wallpaper) beta ..
- update all supported packages 5/10
- restart
- install nvidia-driver using restricted-drivers
- restart
- double click on icon in notification area causes crash

Confirmed as said in Martin Pitt's post. I installed the nVidia driver
and updates. Then that broke the applet. After restarting the session (I
chose to do that by rebooting my machine since I had to anyway) I can
launch the program without issue. Still a bug, but not a bad one. /th/

Just hit this after upgrading this morning from Hardy to Intrepid
(update-manager -c -d). restricted drivers icon appears in tool bar but
no luck right- or left-clicking - left-click (rt-hand mouse) generates
crash and report.

Workaround confirmed to work. However if this problem could show up
again because we aren't addressing the root cause, just wiping it out
with a slash, burn, and reload method.

I saw this after upgrading from the older Nvidia binary drivers to the
newer (IIRC 173 to 177) and trying to open the restricted drivers new
driver message. Any chance I could get a command line version of what
it's trying to do so I can see any warning messages it might give out?

Actually I get this bug after a clean boot, so that can't be true.
Reopening. Even if what you say were true, which it isn't, this would
