After updating the kernel, vga=792(1024x768) mode is fixed for me.
According to the version history, the kernel developers addressed this bug in
the last kernel so I think it should be fixed for everyone.
Note: I still can't use vga=795(1280x1024, see the misc section at the
initial bug report)

Same here. Noticed it ever since I upgraded to Intreped Ibex.
Now running the beta with the 2.6.27-7-generic AMD64 kernel.
No matter what value I give vga= I won't get a TTY.
Very frustrating to have to remove it and now am left with 640x480
