Unfortunately, I am not technically inclined and cannot even begin to
think why mine worked and yours didn't unless the vendors changed
something in the cards.

I can confirm this bug on my thinkpad t61 using a iwl4965 wlan-card.
But I had the same problem on Alpha-5!
