FWIW I have been using this patch for over a week on my main system, and
it seems to be doing fine. No new plasma bugs that I can see, and the
plasmoid-related crashes seemed to have ceased.

Here's a debdiff of the fix. Sorry it took so long.
I've uploaded a fixed package to my personal package archive for testing, and
so far it fixes the crash completely for me.

Is actually a Qt issue, fixed in Qt copy with
0260-fix-qgraphicswidget-deletionclearFocus.diff
It might be wise to pick this one up, as it is probably also the culprit of the
Twitter crash-on-focus.
