same problem over here, not with wep but with wpa wpa2 enterprise settings.

I'd better remove this piece of junk.
Now, there is more.
When nm-applet tries to activate the network it displays a dialog Wireless
Network Secrets Required with only one option:
Wireless Security: None. The Connect button is grayed out, and the
following message appears in the console:
