phin harper, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com

I found Lucid & Karmic work "out-of-the-box" on mine, however, there's
something wrong with the headphones option. As soon as you plug
heatphones in, you can hear a split-second of whatever's playing before
both speakers and headphones go mute.

On the Lucid Lynx start-up disc sound doesn't work for me at all - the
volume control just says "---" and when I try to open sound preferences
it tells me it's "waiting for the sound system to respond". I'm now
running apport-collect to give some info.
Does anyone have a success story to share?

I'd like to be able to do something about the driver too, but my coding
experience amounts to mashing the keyboard with my palm. I suppose we're
just waiting for someone on the sound team to make the final tweak.

I don't believe so, but I've not put much effort into trying. It didn't
work with skype.
I can't help but agree that we're really close, as I can, without doubt,
hear sound through the headphones if I keep plugging in the jack, and
unplugging it rapidly. I'd love to do something about the driver m
It sounds like that patch

I've found a fresh install of 9.10 (or alternatively, booting from
liveCD) works Fine & Dandy on the external speakers. There appears to be
a bit of a problem with the headphone jack, in that as soon as you plug
in headphones, you can hear a split-second of sound (through the
headphones), before bo
Zigon, what did you do to get sound working with OSS? I've had to leave
Linux because of this bug, but I really want to come back. I'll download
the latest Ubuntu if you think I can get sound working.

I can also confirm that the sound does not work on my system with the

Is the Intel ICH8 chipset supported by Alsa? It is not listed in the
