Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development
release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . Please then run the following
command from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will
automatically gather
I don't have the Laptop anymore (now a desktop PC), nor am I running
Ubuntu anymore (now it's Arch). Could one of the subscribers please
perform the above mentioned steps?

It has come to my attention that there is a flood of keyboard volume
button/wheel =hardware= quirks that have never been dealt with, all
having the same general problems.
To keep a long story short, there is a fair chance (though not
guaranteed) that this is a kernel

Yes, it does sound similar. As said there Intrepid uses the evdev driver for
keyboards, that's why the problem has resurfaced.
Is there anything we could do to confirm this as the cause?
