Problem was resolved, now fairly impossible to diagnose original cause
and what changed. Changed as presumed fix in updates over time.

Automount of memory sticks just started working for me, but I don't know
why. The last thing I did was to remove the entry for /dev/sdb1 from
/etc/fstab -- but I had tried working without that entry previously,
without success. I now can mount two sticks simultaneously and I get
the "new medium d
It happens with multiple memory sticks as well:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/kubuntu-default-settings# mount /dev/sdc1 /media/USB1
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/kubuntu-default-settings# ls -ld /media/USB1
drwxr-xr-x 8 root root 16384 1969-12-31 19:00 /media/USB1
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/kubuntu-default-settings
Does this happen with only one memory stick or all of them? Can you
please paste the results of the following command when the disk is
inserted:-
fdisk -l /dev/sdb
(assuming /dev/sdb is the device)
