Have the same problem: USB device is Sony Ericsson W760i in USB Storage
mode. I've managed to connect it once, just after upgrade from hardy,
now after reboot it doesn't work anymore.

Same problem here in Intrepid. USB external drive that worked fine
under previous versions.
At drive power on:

Same problem for me on Intrepid.
When I plugged in the drive, it is detected, then the drive start reading in
loop.
Seems to be in udev, when doing ID search
/lib/udev/vol_id --export /dev/.tmp-8-32
who try to search and never ends.
My disk work well on hardy.

Same problem here. Just upgraded to Intrepid beta with kernel 2.6.27-5-generic.
I have an external USB-IDE drive enclosure and with it plugged in, the boot
hangs with error messages similar to the above. Powering down the drive, the
system boots normally.
The drive is found just fine:
