Please try the latest libasound2 package in my PPA,
http://launchpad.net/~themuso/+archive and tell me if that resolves the
issue. SOunds like this is caused by some patches I pulled from upstream
alsa, but I'll revert them if they cause problems.

This causes pretty much everything in kde that uses sound to cause 100%
cpu use, kopete, knotify, etc...

This bug actually belongs either under libasound I think now. I cannot
play any event sounds with kde4 NOR can I play anything with xine at all
via alsa plugins.
