I've got this issue since installing jaunty, only on downscaled gif's. I
never had this issue with intrepid or older.

I can confirm this behaviour too. It seems to apply on images that are
downscaled either with CSS or the width and height attributes of img
tag.
I see this for example on http://guardian.co.uk frontpage and when I
zoom out with Ctrl+- almost on any page.

I've got the same issue with Intrepid. I think it's related to image
resizing in CSS; if either the height or width properties have values
below the actual image size, the left/top border is displayed. Example
attached.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Could you try to reproduce the same with Ubuntu 8.10 or 9.04?
