Emmet has told me this is due to the kernel being installed to the key
on /, rather than under casper.

This is an issue with the way that the mid and mobile images are
constructed. ubiquity expects to find /cdrom/casper/vmlinuz, but the
images have /cdrom/vmlinuz. Moving the location of vmlinuz in the
images allows the install to succeed.
