As you can notice, the file didn't get modified in any way. i guess your problem comes from the fact that there is 2 configurations in this file. it's obvious that the first configuration is the correct one. run this command: (alt+f2) ? gksu gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf delete the lines starting fr

As you can notice, the file didn't get modified in any way. i guess your problem comes from the fact that there is 2 configurations in this file. it's obvious that the first configuration is the correct one. run this command: (alt+f2) ? gksu gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf delete the lines starting fr

Restarting the window manager, after editing the file as you suggested, caused the (I presume) window manager to display all sorts of weird patterns - ultimately rendering a completely unintelligible screen. Rebooting the PC resulted in the window manager producing the same display from the outset
