Public bug reported:
When I have a folder on my desktop - like the 'desktop' folder - and
single-click on one of the items, then a white dot shows at the upper
left end of the first letter. it can be seen in the attached picture.
Clicking on empty space within this folder view removes the selection,
but leaves the dot. Clicking outside removes the dot; clicking inside
again re-shows the dot.
