There are a large number of duplicates, but none that I can see that
have reported the problem with Jaunty. Can anyone reproduce this issue
with Jaunty? It looks to me like the problem has been fixed.

I booted a Live CD of 8.10 which I burned yesterday 12/27/08. I got the
bug, but the sound before I got the bug was fine.
I'm running a homebuilt system
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P
E-8400 Dual Core 3.0GHz
4G DDR2 RAM at 1066
EVGA 9800 GT video card - P/N 512-P3-N975-AR
I'm using the RealTek sound that

Error present after boot on i386 Intrepid Live CD Final (smoke testing),
with Radeon HD4870/Q9550 and GA EP45-DS4.

This crash is caused by what is known as a race condition, where
canberra-gtk-play plays a sound, and pulseaudio is either not ready, or
not running. If the sound plays, then pulseaudio is not always able to
make use of the audio device, or, you get the crash as reported here.

Problem encountered after several days testing current version of 8.10
on Dell Latitude E6400.
Up to now, there were no problems regarding the sound. I activated an
Login Animation in Compiz, btw (whatever that changed, I did not see
