This bug seems to be fixed in KDE 4.2 (the default values are correct),
which sould be backported to Intrepid soon. If you still experience this
bug after updating, please reopen this bug report.

There is a duplicate of this report in bug 271362. This gave me a clue
to the source of the problem. The size of the different panels is
controlled by the file .kde/share/config/akregatorrc
At the end of that file is a section like this
[View]
Splitter 1 Sizes=328,949
Splitter 2 Sizes=0,598

Scratch my previous comment. That patch fixes the symptoms but not the
cause of the problem which is somewhere deeper. I'm looking into it

it seems that the article list is reduced to zero height by default.
There should be a - hardly visible - resize handle between the search
bar and the article window. Pull that down to see the list. This
definitely should be changed, however, since many users migth not find
the handle and thus
You're right, thanks! What I'd like to know is why it spontaneously set
the height to zero in the first place. I just loaded it up one day - no
updates were applied beforehand - and it had set itself that way.
