Por mi parte te puedo contar que se resolvió el problema reportado con la
primera actualización (17/10/2008). Se habilito NVIDIA y estoy usando 8.10
sin contratiempos. Uso un compaq presario v3418LA.

Same Problem on 2.6.27-7-generic, 64-bit.
Also the previous fixing in previous releases never worked for me. I have this
problem since months.
