Drate-- The bug refers to an integrated graphics chipset that is present
in many laptops. Your Dell 2350 probably has one. If it doesn't, it'd
be good to know that the bug affects other chipsets as well. Can you
attach the output of running the "lspci" command?

I should clarify, I can get to GDM Login Screen at any time. It is when
logging into gnome session that I have the problem indicated previously
(mouse moves, hear logon sound, black screen).
I was able to install icewm and use it without issue, that is how I
found the workaround. I implemented t
Can this bug be renamed or moved away from being specific to the laptop?
I can verify the problem and workaround on a Dell 2350.
Upon "apt-get remove compiz compiz-core" I was able to login. Any
information I can provide I shall upon request.

Kavee-- Sorry if I was unclear. I *can* get to the gdm login screen and
enter my username and password. GDM accepts them, and X seems to start
but then it immediately dies (causing gdm to start up again).
I have not tried removing compiz yet, but that is my next step later

I am not sure if Sibley is having the same problem as the rest of the posters
have. At least in my case, I can get to the GDM login screen. After entering
UserID and password, I can actually hear the short sound clip before the screen
turns black.
Sibley, did you try removing Compiz?

I network upgraded to Intrepid (from Hardy) last night / this morning
and upon reboot I can no longer login with gdm. I enter my user/pass
and X starts for just a brief second (black screen, but

It works fine with intrepid alpha 5, but not with any of the betas, or
the RC.

Yep, removing compiz fixes the problem. Of course compiz worked fine in
hardy, but anyway this probably means that compiz should be blacklisted
on intrepid with this hardware. Guess that could be done even after

I have the same problem. I upgraded from Hardy to Intrepid RC. Login
