I have this issue still as of 6/30/2009 with all packages up to date
(9.04 64 bit server and generic)
Can anyone confirm if this is only for the Ubuntu build of this kernel
or it also exists in the same kernel version from kernel.org?

I believe I have the same problem/bug.
Though the error messagge is sometimes
APIC error on CPU0: 00(40)
and *most* of the time
APIC error on CPU0: 40(40)
It seems to me that the system is slowed down, particularly with
demanding graphic applications (web-flash & 3d games)
