Public bug reported: Binary package hint: system-config-printer
When adding a new printer in the printer manager in Hardy, and the printer is automatically discovered (through Avahi/Bonjour), there is nonetheless no driver suggested for the printer. The usual manufacturer/model dialog is displayed, without pre-selecting the correct manufacturer or model. OTOH, when using the CUPS web interface (localhost:631) and adding a new auto-detected printer, a correct driver is suggested there (although with the quirk that no driver is marked as "recommended", as s-c-p does). This is with system-config-printer-gnome 0.7.81+svn1976-0ubuntu9 and cupsys 1.3.7-1ubuntu3. The printer is a Samsung ML-1610 (USB, connected through a print server); the printer is announced with Avahi running on a separate Ubuntu Dapper machine, with "product=(Samsung ML-1610)". The anonymized Avahi service file is attached. Some questions: - does s-c-p make suggestions for the printer driver based on the Avahi-supplied info at all? - or is the Avahi-supplied info just not correct or somehow misleading, so that the correct driver could not be found? ** Affects: system-config-printer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- no driver suggestion for Avahi-discovered printers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278271 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
