Public bug reported: Binary package hint: transmission
Summary: install gnome-btdownload, lose transmission, life is good again. I guess this was the first time I'd tried to get a torrent since the upgrade to Hardy. It would be nice if, when you rip out a tool that's been in use for years, you'd bother to do something about making the new, improved [sic] tool pay the least attention to previous settings. Just sayin'. So after poking at it i got to the point where transmission was saying it was using port 6881, the useless autocrap was turned off, and netstat agreed that it was listening on 6881. (this has long been configured to forward in our firewall, and as we shall see in a moment that's still working just fine.) But the tracker still reported me as being on a blocked port (it agreed, 6881) and none of the many peers seemed to be able to connect to me. FIX: installed gnome-btdownload, copied torrent from the stupid stupid default Desktop to the customary Music directory, started gnome- btdownload. Now have lots of peers, many who "dialed in" to port 6881, working as expected. Transmission uninstalled, life goes on. BTW, #transmission is utterly useless despite the horde of nicks supposedly present, so maybe there was some magic thing that could have made it work, but after 'way more time and effort than it's worth I couldn't find it. ** Affects: transmission (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- transmission reports port open, world says closed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/279992 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
