Does it work if you attempt to suspend not using the keyboard by
clicking on the shut-down menu and then suspend?

Ok, some good news!
I have to clarify that my suspend shortcut was just the keyboard suspend
button; i have to configure it as shortcut for suspension to make things work.
This was _before_ the upgrade that i was mentioning.
One hour ago i changed the shortcut keys-combination for suspension;
