What Charles wrote (2 posts up - charles 2008-10-20:) makes sense to me,
apart from having to come to find the answer it is good for UI to have
consistency, now if only we can have that "View" option in all apps...

The default behavior was changed so that Transmission adheres to the
Gnome Human Interface Guidelines.
To minimize to the taskbar click on the Transmission's taskbar icon.
If you don't have an icon of Transmission in the taskbar, enable it via
the View menu.

It seems very strange to mee, since no one ever answered this and it
seems pretty annoying. Transmission is the kind of programs you just
want to be on the tray without filling up your window selector, yet, for
some reason, this feature was removed and hasn't been fixed for a long
