I did still have this problem with the latest version, until I simply
deleted the contents of the "local" sub-directory, which seems to've
done the trick.

2.24.2-0ubuntu1 seems to fix the crash that occurred upon attempting to
empty the trash via the folder context menu, but it still does not
actually ever empty the trash, neither via the context menu nor upon
exit.

2.24.1.1-0ubuntu1 (64-bit) still does not empty my trash on exit, and
trying to use the "empty trash" option from the folder's context menu

Preferences > General > Empty trash folders on exit" and select "Every time",
closing evolution and re open it, the emails are still listed on the trash,
trash is not empty.
