I was able to reproduce it, but I was able to deal with the lockup by
doing ctl-alt-backspace to restart the x server.
It looked like it was doing a read() at the point becomes unresponsive.

When the issue happens no particular info are recorded in .xsession-
errors and Xorg.log

If I try
"strace gtk-recordMyDesktop > strace.out 2>&1"
the issue disappears. At this point it's something relating to standard
output.
