For Karmic we've synced kid3 1.2 from Debian, which is KDE4 by default.
Backports for Kubuntu 9.04 would require a bug being filed here:

I have attached a patch kid3_1.1-2.diff.gz which can be used together
with kid3_1.1.orig.tar.gz to create kid3 with KDE 4 and kid3-qt with Qt
4. Moreover, libmp4v2-dev is added to the Build-Depends (this library is
part of Ubuntu, but not of Debian), so that Kid3 will support MP4/AAC
files.

For Jaunty it would be good to have more KDE 4 apps than KDE 3 apps.
Being kid3 be able to compile using kde4 libs, this should be
considered for a more integrated KDE 4 experience.
